The SELF Board of Directors consists of 16 elected members and one appointed CSU representative. An election is held every two years, in odd-numbered years, at which time one half of the board members will have expiring terms of office.

This year, the following incumbents are up for reelection:

• Stacy Lane, North Coast Schools Insurance Group - (appointed) Area I
• John Falappino, Schools Insurance Group - (appointed) Area III
• Travis Steagall, San Mateo County Schools Insurance Group - Area V
• Lynn April Hartline, Orange County Department of Education - Area VI
• Denise Smith, Imperial County Office of Education - Area VI
• Eric Johnston, Snowline Joint Unified School District - Area VI
• Scott Miller, Napa Valley Community College District - NCC
• John Didion , Rancho Santiago Community College District - SCC

And one nominated candidate has been added to the Area V Ballot:

• Barry Schimmel , Hayward Unified School District

Each eligible SELF Member has designated a representative from within the district that will cast the vote for that district. The ballots, which were mailed out in early April, will be addressed to this designated voter. Districts were mailed a form in October of 2008 which would allow them to update the designated voter. If your district has not done so and the ballot came addressed to a person who is no longer with your district, please click on the link below to obtain the form and fax the completed document to our office immediately. We will then order you a new ballot under that person's name.

The schedule for the 2009 election is as follows:

• April 1, 2009 Ballots will be mailed to membership.
• April 24, 2009 Ballots must be post marked by 5:00 p.m. this date to be valid
• May 5, 2009 Ballots will be counted by this date.
• June 26, 2009 The SELF Board of Directors will certify election results.
• July 1, 2009 Newly elected Board members will take office.
