Safe School Ambassadors® Program
The Safe School Ambassadors® program (SSA) is an evidence-based, student centered approach that wakes up the courage of social leaders from the diverse student groups and cliques on campus and equips them with nonviolent communication and intervention skills to stop bullying and violence among their peers. The SSA program has been shown in an independent study to reduce student suspensions by 33%.
Schools that have implemented the SSA program have reported a safer, more welcoming school climate, with increased attendance, improved academic achievement and fewer alternative education placements. Schools have also reported reductions in the costs and losses in both time and money related to the decrease in suspensions. SSA is included in the SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs & Practices as a Legacy Program; it is included in California Safe and Supportive Schools: What Works Brief #7 - Bullying and Harassment - A Guide to Best Practices and is highlighted in the 2018 Inside CA Education as an innovative program in education.
Active SELF members can receive a 5% discount on the SSA program and other programs offered by Community Matters that promote safer schools and social-emotional well-being.
